Steptember 10,000 step challenge for Irish Motor Neurone Disease (IMND)

We are doing this Steptember challenge in honour of our late colleague who sadly passed away earlier this year from Motor Neurone Disease.

Most people walk between 3,000 and 5,000 steps a day. The challenge is to reach the goal of 10,000 steps per day, which is the recommended number of steps by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for health benefits, every day for the month of September/Steptember!

This challenge is for everyone, regardless of your fitness.
The aim is to increase your step count on a daily basis, 10,000 steps equates to approx. 8km.Therefore at the end of the month of Steptember (i.e. 30 days) you will have taken steps that equate to 240km. We are calling this a Steps Challenge.

To facilitate this health promotion campaign, Priority Drilling will;

  • Give a weekly toolbox talk on being active and the Steptember challenge
  • Include the boot logo (as above) on health & safety documents for Steptember to prompt
  • Erect posters and relevant information on all sites to remind employees
  • Management will lead by example by conducting more site walk-about and by talking to
    employees about this challenge
  • Contribute to the chosen charity

Tips to add more steps into your day

  • Park further away from your destination
  • Walk during break times and after work
  • Walk and talk to colleagues instead of phoning or emailing them
  • When at home make a conscious decision to get up and walk
  • Go for a brisk 10-15min walk

    Hopefully this will be the start of a positive healthy habit for everybody who participates!
